What is different between bluecross and bluecrosblueshields?

i was been at the ER, i was so over whilm because the staff their they dont want to accept my child health insurance, my child health insurance bluecross blue shields. but one of the staff there says. they will accept bluecross, what is the different between bluecross and bluecross blueshields. sounds stupid but for me just like they are they same.What is different between bluecross and bluecrosblueshields?It's two different companies.

Blue Cross / Blue Shield exists in some states were they have merged or have partnerships.What is different between bluecross and bluecrosblueshields?Usually there is no difference at all. In California, Blue Cross is one company (A WellPoint Company) and Blue Shield is another company (independent non-profit). In every other state they usually go buy BlueCross BlueShield as one carrier. I know of no other state that does it like CA. So, if you're talking about CA you have the names wrong, and if you're referring to another state...there is no difference except that it takes less time to say 'BlueCross.'
