Why should young adults be able to stay on their parents health ins policies until they are 26 years old?

Are employers being forced to pay this?

26 years old is in no way a child or even a dependent on your tax form. Why should young adults be able to stay on their parents health ins policies until they are 26 years old?To help them so that they can get access to education and have help to stand on their own two feet.

I do not understand why so many Americans have fallen for lies about healthcare in the USA, abroad and also the planned reforms [1]. I mean, if the healthcare system in the USA is so good, why have no other nations taken it up? Could it be due to the following facts?

FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [2].

FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [3].

Or if the US healthcare system is run so well, why not run the fire service like the healthcare system? [4]

Maybe that is because in the USA, before the reforms Obama brought in, insurance companies pushed up costs, bought politicians and refused to pay claims that people pay for [5]. (Look up Wendell Potter on YouTube to hear more if the link below is too long.)

Obama wants to make insurance cheaper, stop insurance companies from refusing health coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, and make sure they pay out when they are meant to [6], a system similar to that which works in Taiwan [7]. He debated this before he was elected [8].

Is it right that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, Cuba, Germany and so many other industrialised nations with universal healthcare?

If you think my arguments are wrong, e-mail me with proof. But if you can not, let Obama try to help America. If he fails, vote him out in 2012.Why should young adults be able to stay on their parents health ins policies until they are 26 years old?
Some health insurance plans allow people to cover their spouse, and most people are okay with this.

So in light of that, I don't know why there is even an age cutoff for other family members. I disagree with a lot of our new health insurance legislation, but this is one of the things that I do agree with.

If we are going to have an age cutoff, I think college plus grad school is a good one. University health insurance is prohibitively expensive just like anything else that has "University" attached to it. This can mean the difference between a talented and driven young person being able to go to school at all, or not. Parents being able to actually put their children through college once again is a net benefit to employers, especially in a country that's losing its professional edge. Why should young adults be able to stay on their parents health ins policies until they are 26 years old?after ObamaCare gets going, many young adults won't be able to afford to buy the required health insurance on the wages they make [if any -- unemployment for 19 to 26 year olds is higher than the national average] and many of them won't get health insurance through their employer.

one 'feature' of ObamaCare is that it subsidizes the health insurance of people in their 50s and early 60s by overcharging people under age 30. [This is the same as NY and MA, btw, which is why young people in those places frequently don't buy health insurance unless they get it through their employer].
many employer sponsered policies allowed a child to stay on the parents policy until 25 if they were a full time student before the law went in to effect. as to privately purchased policies you can buy them on any one you want to just pay the ins premium. but as for my kids if they are not going to collage then they need to be fully self supporting before they are 20.Why should young adults be able to stay on their parents health ins policies until they are 26 years old?young people today seem ill equipped to be independent. there are many factors: parents who coddled them and told them how exceptional they are, the lack of an adequate education in the primary and secondary schools etc.

many who 'graduate' college have majored in 'fine arts' and are Simply not qualified for any job, even if those jobs were available. that is why so many college grads work in the fast food Industries and other similar jobs.

too many just refuse to accept responsibility for their own life choice and blame others for any failures. i think that is just a symptom of our current Society.

it is true that some through no fault of their own are victims of this horrible economy.

it is becoming common place for grandparents to assume the responsibility of raising their offspring or they rely on the government for their money.

personal responsibility is a rare thing these days is my observation.

if parent want to pay for them, that is their choice but this is temporary and at some point, they will have to become independent. it will be a rude awaking.

in our history we had what was called 'apprenticeships'. i think that we should consider this practice now. teach people skills that they can make an honest living and provide for themselves and their families. something to ponder. Why should young adults be able to stay on their parents health ins policies until they are 26 years old?
In a true civilized world why should any one have to worry about heath care period ?

I guess Cons / Reps are just almost inherently some of the most selfish - greedy people on the planet .
Yes. An extension of nanny statism. Teaches them to remain dependent. Why should young adults be able to stay on their parents health ins policies until they are 26 years old?
The Democrats like it because Obama mandated it and He is their leader and He knows what is best for them.
If you chose to put your 26 year old on your policy you will pay the difference.

I know this is hard for C0ns to understand but many 26 year olds are still in college getting MDs, Masters etc.
because not everyone can afford college and health insurance at the same time. if your parents want to pay the difference let them. where's the heard in that?
No.....it only involves privately paid individual policies, not policies related to employment.
yes and you have a point if your insurance has to cover them why can't you claim them as dependents on your tax's
the parent must pay. It's not free
