What do you think about the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program?

It should include adults. Children aren't the only people in desperate need of health care. What do you think about the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program? It was long overdue. What do you think about the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program?
FINALLY!What do you think about the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program?I think it is absurd

why should I be paying to take care of other peoples' kids

Perhaps their parents should learn to care for their own
bush did it.and as a conservative. i feel we should take care of all children who meet the standards set up by each state.but i am not for socialized health care.or for non citizens to have it.What do you think about the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program?I shouldn't have to pay for illegal immigrant's health care. What do you think about the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program?
Just another expanding Social Program that will help Break the Economy of this Nation--especially with all the Illegal Immigrant Children included.
No clue. They snuck it in while everyone was focused on the stimulus bill.

If it is anything like the one Bush vetoed last year, then I am against it. Not that I'm against giving needy children health care - I just disagree with their definition of "needy" and "child." 25 is not a child....yet the bill included "children" up to age 25.What do you think about the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program?
The money that goes to support the health insurance industry is much more than what it would cost to provide health care to all of the uninsured.
If you can't afford them don,t have them.
About time, I wonder how many kids missed doctors appointments due to Bush' sudden concern with the budget last year?

Now lets do something for the early retirees. Too young for Medicare, too well off for Medicaid, not well off enough to afford the full costs of insurance.

See Dee the point of this insurance is to take the place of the middle class people who lost their insurance that they had through their jobs. Millions of people no longer have health insurance because their workplaces no longer offer that as a benefit.

In this state its over $1360 a month for a family of two. Virtually unaffordable for most.

If you lose your job you may get between four and five hundred a week, best case, there is no way you can spend that much on health insurance.

I wonder what it is you are supposed to do with the children you have afforded for years when you lose your job.

Do you leave a ten year old at the lost and found?

Kids stay with you even when the times get tough.

This is not Medicaid, which is for poor kids. This is for kids whos parents have lost health insurance.

Bush said it wouldn't cover poor kids so he wouldn't approve it, but he lied so blatantly that after that I couldn't look at him anymore.

This was a bill for middle class kids. Not the poor, not the slackers, not 'the other guy'.

This was for working people whose kids couldn't afford healthcare.
"why should I be paying to take care of other peoples' kids"

Because today, it is just a delinquent kid. Tomorrow that kis is stealing your TV. Better to solve the problems of youth poverty now than wait for troubled kids to jack your car.
I think it's ridiculous. I don't want any child to go without insurance obviously, but people need to have their heads examined!!!! Point blank, don't have kids unless you can afford them. That means feed them, shelter them, clothe them, cough up money all the time for their field trips, prom dresses, sporting events, school pictures and yes people...insurance of some sort. People bug me!
Another scam. Do you realize they expanded it by including children up to 25 years of age? I was married and raising my son and providing for my family when I was 23 years old.

I think he's putting the cart before the horse again. This program includes children of people making up to $65,000 a year. If you make that much money, somehow you should be able to prioritize and have health care for your children. Why don't they concentrate on real solutions to the economy first and getting people back to work. I don't see anything wrong with helping people who are genuinely down and out, but this kind of 'help' for prosperous middle class people is unnecessary.
As human beings we have a responsability to lok after people. Also do you think a child should get a job you know 5 year old working for less than minimum wage.
I'm concerned by the people against this.

Sure, you shouldn't have kids if you can't afford them, and sure we shoudln't be responsible for someone else's children. The problem is, this is not the childs fault. Do you tell a 2 yd old she can't be treated because her parents are slackers?
It it will paid for by increases in federal tobacco taxes. Kind of ironic if you ask me... It kinds of promotes smoking.

Also, "poverty" is defined differently from state to state... The federal guidelines will allow for some rich kids with private insurance to be eligible... and some poor kids with very low income to NOT be eligible.

This is one of those things that federal government should REALLY stay out of. An actually bill... for STATE child health services passed by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT???

Do any of you know what federalism is? Do you have any sense of the idea of states rights??? Do you understand that by taking this money from the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, each state will give up certain rights as to how to administer the funds? (thus, a child of parents in one state who make $80,000 a year [I grant that is not that much] with private insurance will now be eligible under FEDERAL law!) - what do you think will happen? Will the parents continue to PAY, or will they take the free SCHIP??? What would YOU do??? HAHAHA
Thats right why care about other people children, in fact we should not have to educate them either. We should get rid of public schools and child welfare, it would cut costs. Let those who can pay for schools go to school as well as health care and lets add the police protection to that too. After all our President Teddy Roosevelt is just plain crazy.
