Why would it take until 1965 to strike down laws that ban inter-racial marriage?

That seems like an awfully long time for such laws to be on the books... Crazy ignorant. Why would it take until 1965 to strike down laws that ban inter-racial marriage?Because America was highly segregated until the 1960'sWhy would it take until 1965 to strike down laws that ban inter-racial marriage?
BECAUSE A GREAT DEAL OF PEOPLE THEN WERE OK WITH THE BAN . SO BEFORE YOU CALL ANY ONE CRAZY IGNORANT YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT WAS THERE THINKING THEN .Why would it take until 1965 to strike down laws that ban inter-racial marriage?Native Americans and Black Americans were not even afforded civil rights until 1963.

Inter-racial marriage was only one of many things that were banned for these citizens.

One hundred years earlier the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves.

That was slow to come, too, and millions lost their lives fighting in a civil war for their beliefs-for or against slavery and recession.

There was no such emancipation for Native Americans. Why would it take until 1965 to strike down laws that ban inter-racial marriage?
Democrats insisted in States Rights. Why would it take until 1965 to strike down laws that ban inter-racial marriage? After the Civil War...there was a concerted effort to define states rights......what areas of government were the responsibility of individual states and what areas were Federal juristiction..... as things developed it became evident that certain states refused to grant full citizenship to every citizen..... miscegination was just one of many areas that were abused..... finally when we had to use Federal troops to enforce intigration and we had to use Federal law to provide equal rights

You are right.....it took a long time......but states were given every opprotunity to do the "right" thing( 100 years)......and they failed
