Why does a parent actually have to do physical harm to a child before CPS steps in?

when someone is an obvious risk due to mental health or what have you, why don't they get involved then and take the children until the parent(s) have completed court ordered counseling and mental health evaluations to determine that they are fit and mental sound?Why does a parent actually have to do physical harm to a child before CPS steps in?The case workers are so over worked and under paid... they need to start with hiring more bodies for the job. Second, they do step in sometimes it's not fast enough or they tend to give people a change. Ex: A report comes threw the house is unkempt and child appear to be wearing the same clothes everyday, it's obvious neglect is going on. CPS will mandate parenting class and a house check within 7days... at that time is when a decision is made. Also, in NY if a report is called in to CPS they must evaluate the situation within 24hrs- and they do.Why does a parent actually have to do physical harm to a child before CPS steps in?
I don't know. I think if it's a serious enough mental problem that someone needs to be in the home at all times, like supervised visits with a professional to monitor weekly, %26amp; I'm talking about severe Bipolar unless they are being properly treated or postpartum Psychosis but not for every little thing. I have had problems with OCD, depression %26amp; post partum depression but I went %26amp; got treated for it. I take care of my 13yr old s/d %26amp; my 3yr old %26amp; 13month old %26amp; then every other weekend my 5yr old s/d. I also homeschool my children. I do fine but then again I don't have a severe disorder %26amp; if I did I would get help, so yes, if some one is an obvious risk %26amp; refuses help then somebody needs to do something.Why does a parent actually have to do physical harm to a child before CPS steps in?Imagine the damage done from verbal abuse, badgering and abandonment children suffer which doesn't show up as bruises on their skin!



You can imagine why a bunch of abusive chrisitans are against all this children protection! They want their kids home-schooled too! Yikes!

You have way too strong of an opinion on something that will never affect anything you do. Put some of that energy into something that actually matters...
Because people have too many rights to hide behind in today's society.

Do you really want the government to have the power to take your children from you on a whim?
