Up until what age is the health visitor supposed to visit your child?

No-one has been to see my child since she was a couple of weeks old. There was a clinic I could visit, but they told me 'ask your doctor' about every question I asked so I stopped going when she was a few months old and then the clinic shut anyway.



You hear about such dreadful things happening to children, but then no-one seems very interested in checking up on my child; is that normal?Up until what age is the health visitor supposed to visit your child?Health visitor for us kept coming up until he was one ......... it seems like its quite random as to how you get treated.

I don't know where you live, but I've never had anyone come to my house to check on my children.

I take them to the doctor for their well-child checkups and immunizations, but if I didn't, no one would come to my house or call me to find out why I wasn't doing it.

As the parent, it's all your responsibility.

I guess the exception to that could be if there have been problems in your or your child's life, and Child Protective Services has been involved with you.

Other than that, it's all up to you--Big Brother doesn't check on me to make sure I'm caring for my children properly.Up until what age is the health visitor supposed to visit your child?Normal they come and see you within ten days of having baby and check weight ect They then tell you where the clinic is and days to take baby to be weighed and it is up to you then.

Years ago around 30 they used to come regular to check if you and child are ok up to age of school or nursery.I think that they have so much work to do they rely on you going there to be honest but surprised you had to chase them for a first visit.Up until what age is the health visitor supposed to visit your child?
I am really surprised at that Skidoo.Maybe because my kids are very close in age (3,2,1 and a litte 18mth old just came to stay with me today) our heath visitor seems to never be away from the place.

I know in NI for the first year (obviously more when the are newborn) the HV visits once a month.After that my kids have had 3 month visits and many baby clinic appt.

I am sure Im not alone in finding what you said quite alarming.As you say the amount of horror stories you hear-Who is checking on these kids?Up until what age is the health visitor supposed to visit your child?When my daughter came home from the hospital (a 2 month preemie), a nurse specializing in breast feeding came about a 4 or 5 days later to make sure she was feeding okay. This was a free service, but something we had to ask for.

ours turned up now and again. Reassuringly, she obviously felt there were no serious issues, since she apparently used most of the time as a fag break, once spotted by me puffing away in her car around the corner, before turning up reeking of smoke and made her traffic based excuses for late arrival.
In my area they are like Nazi's! I had to tell them to stop calling in the end...it was my 2nd child and I am very capable of loking after her. With my 1st I was glad of the help and advice...but there should be somewhere for you to go and get the baby weighed if you want to...without making GP appointments...ask your doctors receptionist...often they run mother and baby clinics at the actual doctors office.
