Is workers compensation insurance required in order to hire own child for minor office work?

As a sole proprietorship business hiring own child for minor no-risk work, am I required to buy workers compensation insurance for the kid? Is my family health insurance coverage a legal substitute for workers compensation insurance? I am in NJ.Is workers compensation insurance required in order to hire own child for minor office work?Looks like the answer is yes.

Sole Proprietorship 鈥?All sole proprietorships operating in New Jersey must maintain workers' compensation insurance or be approved for self-insurance so long as any one or more individuals, excluding the principal owner, performs services for the business for prior, current or anticipated financial consideration*.

I can't find exceptions for family members. But I would call this number and ask.

Health insurance would not be an legal substitute because it doesn't provide for lost wages. Is workers compensation insurance required in order to hire own child for minor office work?My heavens, put the kids to work and pay them something outta your pocket

and not the business - then your problems would be solved - don't let the

kids do anything that they may get injured and keep an eye on them.

I'm sure you will not get any great return on their employment if they filled

out an application and you put them on the payroll - for what ? ?
