Bush vetoed a bill that would fund the SCHIP health care benefit that makes it possible for the working poor of America to be able to receive meager health care for their children.



His propagandists claim that he supports a bill that would instead underfund the program by 15% and leave many million more children of hard working Americans without any health care.



The Republicans oppose funding for health care for children because the tobacco lobby that funds their campaigns opposes a tax on cigarettes.



They would rather keep the price down on cigarettes and raise the price of health care for future generations as more and more of their customers come down with emphysema and various cancers.

Absoulutly not! omg!! thats horriable.. most of those poor kids have no parents, and how are those kids supposed to get money? As far as im concerned, George Bush is a Greedy theif that would do anything to get money.

As a middle class American I am sick and tired of supporting the "underprivileged". Each and every time some do gooder wants to expand a pork barrel bill, I get stuck paying for it.

Insofar as this bill is concerned, I am all for it if it maintains current spending.

I read at bloomberg that they would be increasing the cigarette tax from 39 cents a pack to a dollar. that's sad because there are so many families out there that yeah they make enough, but its barely enough to pay the bills, private insurance through employment is still very expensive not only that you still have to pay co-pays. its funny how he says that he doesn't want to pass the bill because he doesn't want to have families give up their better insurance. I just wish he would tell us why he really no and not give us that bs. I heard about 4 states will be suing the bush administration, we will see what happens.

And as for some peoples comments about being tiered of helping out the underprivileged, your not paying for it unless you smoke. And no, these people are not lazy their income proves they are not lazy its just expensive and sometimes people just have to have a roof over their heads. In some states the cost of living is so high it doesn't really matter if you only have 2 kids and you make 52k a year you still have to pay rent of 1400 dollars, and that is cheap rent. what people have to consider is the cost of living not just looking at the income
I think it's really stupid. All they care about is money and they don't care about peoples' lives! I think kids of poor people deserve health care as much as kids of rich parents. Did you even take the time to see his reasons? He proposed a different bill that will cover more children. Socialized health care is not a good thing. Ask Canadians who have no say in what doctors they can see.
