I have a teenager who has NF with learning disibilities. She has had many serious medical issues, numorous sugeries and also suffers from behavioral issues. ISoon she will be to old to remain on my medical insurance. She has a list of on going life sustaining medical suppiles that are re ordered monthly and even with my insurance coverage I stilll have to pay over $200.00 a month just in co pays. How will be paid when she's to old to be on my health insurance? Anyone out there dealing with NF have any info or just some advice on dealing with all the NF issues??Anyone out there have a child with NF? Is it possible to get social security benefits for them?I'm sure she should qualify for medicaid (if you're in the USA), even if you make too much $$ for normal mcd you can get it even if you have a primary insurance. I see this all the time with cases similar to yours, I would suggest that you go to your local medicaid office (or may be the health dept) and apply. I'm not sure about starting the SSI. You would probably still have to carry the primary insurance, but mcd would cover what ever is not covered, but is medically necessary for your child.
When she's too old for your insurance, she will qualify for SSI MCD. There are several divisions of medicaid other than the cmo's (wellcare, peachstate, amerigroup). You sound like you need help and that's exactly what it's there for. I hope you get the help for your daughter.Anyone out there have a child with NF?
