Do you really need to take child birth classes?

I guess I am just feeling lazy. The hospital I plan to deliver at offers child birth classes only in the evenings and on weekends. My husband works 2nd shift, and I work some weekends, so there really isn't any class we could go to together.

I've read every website on child birth, read every book, been on a hospital tour, watched 100 videos of child birth. I have no questions, no concerns, and no real fears about the pain part of birth. A child birth class isn't going to calm my fears about the baby's health.

Is there actually an advantages to taking a child birth class? I'm due in less than 2 months, and I can think of a lot better uses for the time and money. Would a class really help at all?Do you really need to take child birth classes? You sound prepared and if you have any questions about labor and delivery you can ask your doctor unstead of going to the classes. None of my sisters did. They said that women give birth all the time and they would watch movies and go on a tour like you did, but not to waste time or money on classes that they couldn't afford to attend. So no you don't have to go, it is up to you and your husband.Do you really need to take child birth classes?
This is a really good question... I'm 33 weeks and 4 days and I havent gone to any classes. I've signed up, but they don't start until October 3 and they're once a week. I moved cross country in the middle of my pregnancy so that's what Im using as my excuse. My husband and I also have scheduling conflicts so that's another reason. I just thought I would let you know that I'm in the same boat and I hope it works out for us!Do you really need to take child birth classes?I think you'll be fine without them, but I liked them because it made me feel like my husband was learning some things and ways to help me out when the time came. It's sometimes better for men to hear things from other people other than their wives.
I didn't take them, but when I was 22 my mom had another baby and I went through everything with her...everything from dr. appts. to the actual delivery. (I got to cut the cord!!) I don't think the classes would have benefited me a whole lot, honestly. As long as you know what to expect (especially, God forbid, if something were to go wrong) then I'd bet you'll be ok.Do you really need to take child birth classes?I think that when you actually go into labor and deliver that instinct will kick in and you will know what to do. Think back in the day, you know they didn't have class and everything was fine! So thats just my opinion! Good luck!Do you really need to take child birth classes?
I guess it depends on what your birthplan is looking like. Some women may find it beneficial if they are attempting a "natural" birth. I suppose they offer a lot of techniques to help you deal with the pain. But I found a lot of that stuff in all of the books as well. I personally didn't go for that, and I WAS planning on going without any pain relief. Of course it didn't happen that way.

I really don't see any benefit though if you already know it won't cure any fears or anything. I am sure a lot of women now might post all sorts of wonderful things about them though.
If you've educated yourself about it, and asked your doc the right questions, you'll do just fine. I never took a class and had very quick, smooth, and relatively easy labors (partially due to the epidural lol).Do you really need to take child birth classes?
No you dont, its just knowledge! And it sounds like you are all caught up already, so I guess your fine!
we went to classes but i dont think they are a compulsory thing. the classes we went to were at the hospital but they were free. this is in australia by the way. they just had alot of information and they dn't teach breathing classes anymore i don't think so its your call.
I didn't.
