One section of the economic stimulus bill designates nearly a billion dollars for new vaccinations of children.
$954,000,000 shall be used as an additional amount to carry out the immunization program authorized by section 317(a), (j), and (k)(1) of the Public Health Service Act ("section 317 immunization program")What happen to Americans health freedom? Nearly a billion dollars for new vaccinations of children?I don't know about the US, but parents of 4-out-of-5 Canadian kids born between 1971 and 1990 failed to get them fully vaccinated against mumps, probably for a variety of reasons including sheer ignorance of the fact that you need two shots, not just one, for full immunity.
Mumps in adults is a potentially serious condition:

AND there's always the danger of passing it on to someone else unawares.
So here's the right question:
How free are you to endanger others when simple, safe remedies are available to greatly reduce or even eliminate such dangers? What happen to Americans health freedom? Nearly a billion dollars for new vaccinations of children? So what is wrong with this - or would you rather see kids coming down with polio or scarlet fever etc. and being crippled for life again like in the old days before we had vaccinations to protect them ??What happen to Americans health freedom? Nearly a billion dollars for new vaccinations of children?I'm all for it- and I tend to the conservative side and there are a lot of items in the bill I don't like. After all, the ones who will benefit from this are working-class individuals who pay taxes and have health insurance.
Immunizations for kids today are a lot more complex than they were 20 years ago when there were just a handful of shots they needed, and insurance does not tend to cover them. Vaccines are one of the most cost-effective measures out there to improve health. I fail to see why anyone would oppose this.
