If children get sick from parents second hand smoke, is this child abuse?

Reliable studies show the extreme affect on an individual's health from exposure to second-hand smoke. Health care issues include major respiratory disorders, respiratory infections, and cancer. If children develop illnesses contributed to second-hand smoke resulting from their parents' smoking, should this be considered child abuse? detailed answers as to why or why not? Please, Thanks. If children get sick from parents second hand smoke, is this child abuse? Not sure what "reliable studies" you're reading, but in my medical journals it's proven there is NO correlation between second hand smoke and cancer. At all. Period.

I'm as anti-smoking as the next guy; maybe more so due to what I see in practice, but I feel you're carrying the threat too far here. Even respiratory infection is not likely to be the result of second hand smoke, but rather exposure to bacteria or virus.

If a child has a respiratory disorder, like asthma, then of course it's unwise to expose them to second hand smoke. Any pre-existing condition will make them more susceptible to complication from bad air of any type.

If you want to carry this to this extreme, parents who raise susceptible (or possible any) children in city environments with poor air quality would be equally liable.

I am NOT in favor of kiddos being raised in homes with parents who smoke indoors. Just think the idea of charging them with child abuse is extreme. If children get sick from parents second hand smoke, is this child abuse?
It depends.

If you can prove that the parent blatantly put the child in harms way by taking absolutely no precautions (smoking while breast feeding or smoking in same room with child all the time) then, depending on your states laws, CPS or the state may be able to charge the parent with endangering the welfare of a child. If children get sick from parents second hand smoke, is this child abuse?it should be as far as i'm concerned. if you injected your child with smack or fed them alcohol it would be child abuse; i have NO idea why smoking doesn't seem to count. it's disgusting; anyone allowing their child to come anywhere near cigarette smoke, or smoking while pregnant for that matter, should have their child taken somewhere safe and be sterilized. it's poison and should be treated as such.If children get sick from parents second hand smoke, is this child abuse?
I wish it could be, but probably not. Unless you could get a doctors report or lung capacity report (take the child to a specialist they blow into a tube after a month to show before and after). Take that to court if you are having issues. If children get sick from parents second hand smoke, is this child abuse?Well if they tell their parents to stop and they don't want to and smoke infront of them even if the child doesn't like it and yes it's child abuse. But when they follow what the child says and they don't smoke infront of them then no it's not child abuse.O_oIf children get sick from parents second hand smoke, is this child abuse?
No.

If second hand smoke was as dangerous as people believe it is, there would be nobody alive in their 50s and 60s. They all grew up in clouds of smoke from their parents WW2 era.
It should be. I got lung cancer because of my Moms second hand smoke.
